This project for a London based community centre involved creating a playspace in a previously unused part of their building – the roof. A grid of large laminated timber arches subdivide the roof.
The design followed feedback from the children and was inspired by their interest in wigwams. Sail like canvases are fixed between several adjacent arches to provide shade and enhance the proposal’s spatial interest. The intention is to create a rooftop landscape which, in the minds of the children inhabiting it, feels magical to move through.
