A kitchen extension to a family house in a London conservation area.
The space has been given a generous feel by eating into the unused ‘L’ part of the living room behind, and by lowering the floor one further step. The carefullly chosen pallette of materials, including stained oak flooring, beech ply joinery and a matt grey kitchen with yellow splashback, contribute to the warm character of the room. A high ‘G’ value was specified for the large rooflight, in order to reduce solar gain. Rather than having a conventional set of opening doors, a large window seat with bi-folding doors forms a different relationship to the garden.
